Q: Can you help me find hotel reservations in Gardiner?
A: We would be more than happy to get you in touch with the local hotels, motels, rental
cabins and bed & breakfasts! However, there currently is no central reservation center for
Gardiner and the Chamber does not keep track of the reservation status of any of the

Q: How close is Gardiner to Yellowstone National Park?
A: Gardiner is the North Entrance to Yellowstone Park. Park Street boarders the north
edge of the Park, and the Entrance Gate to Yellowstone is located about half a mile from the
Gardiner Chamber office.
Q: How many people visit Gardiner each year?
A: Gardiner has a year-round population of around 850 people, but in the summer months
the number of residents increases to accommodate employees for local businesses and the
Park concessionaire. On average, around 500,000 visitors travel through Gardiner.
Q: What is the weather like in Gardiner?
A: As in any mountainous area, you will have micro-weather patterns. With the variation in elevation and character of
exposure, some areas will receive more precipitation than others. The Gardiner area has a cool, semi-arid climate. This
means annual temperature varies with altitude, as does precipitation. For example, the Gardiner area receives between 10
and 14 inches of rain per year, while the Jardine area, approximately 1,000 feet higher in elevation, receives 18 to 20
inches of rain per year. Temperatures will vary as much as 10 - 15 degrees with altitude. The growing season ranges from
90 -110 days in the Gardiner area and is less at higher elevations.
Summers are generally pleasant with warm days and cool nights, with an occasional afternoon thundershower. The warmest month is typically July, with daily temperatures averaging 85 degrees. Humidity is rare and dense fog seldom occurs. Most summer rain falls as showers and is sometimes accompanied by thunder, lightning, hail, or snow.
Winters generally have some cold spells. The average temperatures is about 23.0 degrees Fahrenheit. In the winter months, high winds can occur. Annual snow fall averages 25 - 40 inches. In general terms, the climate of the Gardiner area may be described as high desert.

A: Gardiner has a local grocery store called the North Entrance Food Farm. They are located on Scott Street in Gardiner.
They carry most food items and some toiletries, but there are no stores comparable to a Wal-Mart in the Gardiner area. The nearest one is 85 miles away in Bozeman, Montana.
Q: Is there public transportation in Gardiner?
A: No. There is no public transportation in Gardiner nor one that will bring you to Gardiner. The closest Greyhound
station is in Livingston, Montana (52 miles north) and the closest Amtrak station is in Shelby, Montana (344 miles north).

A: Gardiner does not have a local newspaper. The closest newspaper is the Livingston Enterprise, which is distributed

Q: What are the roads like around Gardiner?
A: Highway 89 which runs north out of Gardiner is a paved, US Highway and is plowed and maintained all year long.
The only road that remains open to wheeled vehicle traffic year-round in Yellowstone is the road from Gardiner to Cooke
City. Otherwise, all other roads directly around Gardiner are dirt and should be driven with caution in the winter months
and with care in the summer months.

A: Gardiner is located in Montana, just a few miles from the Wyoming boarder.

A: There are no places for tent camping in the town of Gardiner. There are several Forest Service campsites within a few

Q: What types of wildlife can I see in Gardiner?
A: Bison, elk, deer and pronghorn can frequently been seen in the town of Gardiner. On rare occasions bear, coyote,
bighorn sheep, and moose can be seen in or just outside of town as well.
Q: Is there a park in town?
A: Yes! There is a small park with a pavilion located just below the Roosevelt Arch. It has picnic tables for use by the
public, but if you are interested in reserving Arch Park for an event, you need to contact us.
Q: I would like to hold a wedding reception, or other large group gathering in Gardiner. Is there a place to do this?
